Match of the Night (Koloff vs Magnum T.A.)

Tonight's match is from the greatest feud of the 1980s, maybe even of all time.   The series of matches between Nikita Koloff (The Russian Nightmare) and Magnum T.A.  for the NWA US Heavyweight Title.

The matches spanned 1985-86 until the tragic accident that left Magnum nearly paralyzed and unable to wrestle again.

Sadly this affected the careers of both men as Magnum and Nikita were on a trajectory to be NWA World Champion and then feud over the title and be the next generation of superstars for the NWA/WCW.  Nikita would veer his character away from the hated to beloved Russian as he sided with Dusty Rhodes in his on going feud with the Four Horseman.

From NWA World Wide Wrestling, September 1986...less than a month from Magnum's accident, he battles US Champion Nikita Koloff.

WWF Tag Team Champions

The team of Demolition holds the record for the longest tag team title reign in WWF/WWE history.

They defeated the team of Strike Force (Tito Santana/Rick Martel) at Wrestlemania IV on March 27th 1988 in Atlantic City, NJ.  They held the title belts for 478 consecutive days.  They would lose the belts to the team of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard (The Brain Busters) on July 18th 1989 during a taping for Saturday Night's Main Event.  Demolition would recapture the titles 76 days later on October 2nd 1989 in Wheeling WV.  This time they "only" held the titles for 72 days then lost them to the Colossal Connection (Andre The Giant/Haku) on December 13th 1989 in Huntsville, AL.
The Colossal Connection held the belts for 109 days before meeting Demolition again on April 1st 1990 at Wrestlemania VI in Toronto, Ontario, Cananda.
The belts would belong to Demolition again and now they had added a 3rd member of the team, Crush, and due to the "Freebird Rule" any of the three members of Demolition could defend the tag team titles.
This would be the last tag team title reign for the team of Demolition, and they held the belts another 148 days.  The final loss would be at the hands of the now legendary Hart Foundation (Bret Hart/Jim Niedhart) at Summerslam on August 27th 1990.

Demolition held the WWF Tag Team Titles for a combined total of 698 days.  Oddly enough, the record for most days as tag team champion belongs to Demolition's long time manager, Mr. Fuji.
He held the belts on 3 occasions with Professor Toru Tanka for 569 days and then added 2 more title reigns with Mr. Saito for 363.  This gives Mr. Fuji a combined total of 932 days at WWF Tag Team Champion.

Each Title change for Demolition as Tag Team Champions
