Match of the Day
From August 1985, the AWA World Tag Team Champions take on the #1 contenders, The Irwin Brothers (Bill and Scott Irwin).
The Irwin Brothers were in my opinion one of the best teams to hit the AWA in many years after the Road Warriors but they just became fodder for the Warriors. Having them beat the Warriors and trade the belts would have made for a possibly legendary feud but sadly Verne wanted to keep the Warriors happy and didnt let the Long Riders get another shot at the belts.
Sadly Scott "Hogg" Irwin died from a brain tumor in September of 1987.

The Valiant Brothers
Here is a non title tag team matchup between the then WWF tag team champions, Handsome Jimmy and Luscious Johnny Valiant, The Valiant Brothers facing off against Dean Ho and Tony Garea. Garea was a friend of Vince Sr and Jr and was a loyal employee for years including 2 decades after he retired and served as talent relations and assistant to Gorilla Monsoon.
The Valiants are introduced as being from Chicago Illinois but during their long run in Indianapolis they were from New York City, which made them evil just being from there. I guess being from Chicago made them hated on the east coast.

Armageddon 2002
Today in 2002 the WWE held its Armageddon PPV from Ft Lauderdale Florida.
The main event was Shawn Michaels defending the World Heavyweight Title against HHH in a 2 out of 3 falls match.
Subtitled "3 Stages of Hell" this one started off fall one as a "Street Fight", fall #2 "Steel Cage" and fall #3 was a ladder match.
Because these are as close as brothers, Michaels and HHH wanted to blow the roof off and make each other look great and so they turned in one of the best matches of the decade.
due to the WWE blocking all videos of the finish of this match, this was all I could find and I apologize for that.

Match of the Day
Today's match is from Starrcade 85 (The Gathering) and one of the biggest matches of that year and any other year was the culmination of the fued between Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard. The "I Quit" match in a cage became legendary for its violence and controversial finish.
This is what wrestling today is missing, a long, great feud that has a great payoff finish at the biggest PPV of the year.

News and Notes November 22nd 2011 After Survivor Series
thanks to the wrestling online network
CM PUNK REGAINS GOLD, THE ROCK SHAKES THE GARDEN
- Here are the results from yesterday's 25th annual Survivor Series which
took place at Madison Square Garden on pay-per-view: Dolph Ziggler defeated
John Morrison to retain the U.S. title; Beth Phoenix defeated Eve to retain
the Divas title in a lumberjack match; Team Barrett with Wade Barrett, Cody
Rhodes, Hunico, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger defeated Team Orton with
Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Sin Cara and Mason Ryan in a
traditional five on five elimination match. Barrett and Rhodes were the two
surviving members of the winning team; Big Show defeated Mark Henry via
disqualification in the World Heavyweight title match thus title doesn't
change hands; CM Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio to become the new WWE
champion; and John Cena and The Rock defeated The Miz and R-Truth in the
main event.
SIN CARA OUT FOR SIX TO NINE MONTHS
- Sin Cara will be out for the majority of the next year after suffering a
ruptured patella tendon during the traditional five on five Survivor Series
elimination match yesterday. WWE.COM listed six to nine months on the shelf
for the Mexican luchador who had the worse of starts for his WWE career.
After much hype for his signing from CMLL, Sin Cara was suspended for thirty
days after failing the Wellness Program test just two months after making
his WWE debut. His rocky performances continued with a lot of botched spots
and re-takes on Smackdown and yesterday was no different as Sin Cara tried
to leap over the top rope but didn't have enough height, got tangled in the
ropes and crashed down hard.
THE ROCK THANKS FANS AFTER THE SURVIVOR SERIES
- After Survivor Series went off the air, The Rock spent a few more minutes
in the ring and cut a short promo for the New York crowd. Fans chanted "you
still got it," "welcome back," and "thank you Rock" before turning to a "we
want Ryder" chant, with Rocky acknowledging the Ryder chant saying he's a
fan too. One fan yelled at The Rock "don't cry" which resulted in a lot of
laughter from fans and The Rock himself who assured the guy that he wasn't
going to cry. The Rock thanked the fans and said he's back to entertain the
people. He called November 20, 2011 as the greatest moment in the history of
his WWE career. The Rock then shook hands with fans and WWE employees at
ringside before heading to the back.
MICK FOLEY ON NBC's "30 ROCK"
- Mick Foley will be appearing on an upcoming episode of NBC's "30 Rock" TV
show after he revealed that he filmed scenes for it last week in New York.
Foley will be reprising his old WWE gimmick of Mankind for the episode which
also involves his first ever kissing scene! The hardcore legend is the first
wrestling start to appear on the popular NBC show starring Alec Baldwin,
Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan. Judah Friedlander, another cast member from the
show, was at the Survivor Series yesterday. Foley was also present but never
appeared on camera.

Survivor Series 2011
This Sunday November 20th 2011 the WWE will hold its annual Survivor Series PPV. This year it will be at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The main event will feature the return of the Rock to WWE in ring action as he teams with John Cena. They will face the team of The Miz and R Truth. I am sure there will be major issues between Cena and The Rock as they begin the major buildup to Wrestlemania 28 in Miami Florida.

ESPN E60 - Scott Hall
The ESPN show E60 did a documentary on the sad decline of Razor Ramon AKA Scott Hall.
From his days as "Big" Scott Hall to Razor Ramon to the NWO they look at Scott Halls spiral into drug addiction, alcoholism to now where he is on 11 medications for a number of ailments.
This was a well done show and Scott gave them access to himself and the WWE really stepped up with interviews and video.

Updates
Survivor Series 2011 will now feature The Rock and John Cena together in a 5 on 5 classic survivor series match. I am sure this will not end good and set up the WM match that is already scheduled.
Thanks to Colin Vassallo for this:
The upcoming Steve Austin DVD has got itself a new artwork selected by the WWE Hall of Famer himself.
Titled "Stone Cold Steve Austin: The Bottom Line on the Most Popular Superstar of All Time," this four disc - yes, four disc - DVD set will be the last ever Austin WWE DVD produced and will be released nationwide on November 29.
Austin selected all the matches and content for this set and served as a producer as well. The disc will also be available in Blu-Ray format as well.
You can see the artwork below.
FLAIR TO UNDERGO SURGERY NEXT WEEK
- Ric Flair will be undergoing surgery next week according to the Charleston
Post Courier to repair a torn triceps from the aftermath of his original
injury of a broken bursa sack in his elbow. The injury occurred when he took
a superplex from Sting during the IMPACT Wrestling tapings. "I thought it
was getting better but the swelling just wouldn't go away," Flair told Mike
Mooneyham at the Post Courier. Flair said he never tore anything except the
rotator cuff during his long and storied career. He blames the injury on not
working enough and said it's "no big deal" as it could have been much more
worse.

Summer Slam 1990
Today in 1990 the WWF held its annual Summer Slam PPV. This year it was at the Spectrum in Philadelphia
Here are the results:
- Hercules & Paul Roma defeated The Rockers via countout.
- Kerry Von Erich defeated Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig to win the WWF Intercontinental Title. Von Erich was a replacement for Brutus Beefcake, who had been seriously injured in a parasailing accident. This would be Von Erich's only championship in the WWF.
- Sherri Martel defeated Sapphire via forfeit when she didn't appear for the match. It was later revealed that Sapphire had joined with Ted DiBiase, leaving Dusty Rhodes.
- The Warlord defeated Tito Santana.
- The Hart Foundation defeated Demolition (Smash & Crush) in three falls to win the WWF World Tag Team Title. Demolition won the first fall when Crush pinned Hart, the Foundation won the second fall when Demolition was disqualified, and the Foundation won the third fall when Hart pinned Crush after an appearance by the Legion Of Doom. Interesting to note that in the past, if a disqualification took place during a three fall tag title match, the title would not change hands in the WWF, however that rule was inexplicably changed for this bout.
- Jake Roberts defeated Bad News Brown via disqualification.
- Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Nikolai Volkoff defeated The Orient Express.
- Randy Savage defeated Dusty Rhodes in under three minutes when Ted DiBiase and Sapphire distracted him.
- Hulk Hogan defeated Earthquake via countout.

Match of the Day
Today's match is from Feb 1984 and just before the WWF turned some of the legends of pro wrestling into cartoon characters. This battle royal was in St Louis MO, the hotbed of pro wrestling west of the Mississippi.
The fans loved it and it was a ring full of some of the biggest names in the sport then and now.

Tuesday in Texas
Today while listening to a great podcast, The Place To Be, the host were talking about the WWF PPV
Tuesday in Texas from December of 1991 I thought I needed to post this clip.
After a so so match between Macho Man Randy Savage and Jake The Snake Roberts, the after match doings were probably the best I have seen ever. Jake too his heel persona to the moon by hitting Miss Elizabeth and then cut the promo of his career. Announcers Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan were tremendous and actually seemed incensed and flabbergasted by the events in the ring. Then Mean Gene Okerlund did a great job in being offended by Jake's little speech. It was the perfect storm for all involved and the crowd reaction of complete disbelief is something you just dont see anymore.

Match of the Day
Our Match today is from Summer Slam 1993. Held August 30th 1993 a the Palace of Auburn Hills outside of Detroit Michigan. This match features the hometown heroes The Steiner Brothers defending the WWF Tag Team Titles against the Heavenly Bodies of Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
The match itself is ok but the play by play and commentary of Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan is just tremendous, well Bobby is GREAT as always but the horribly bad announcing of VKM is at his all time badness.
Enjoy

Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio
Reported by: Colin Vassallo, on Jul 22, 2011 - 9:32:06 PM
Last Saturday, just one day prior to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, WWE held one of their supershows in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with both Superstars from RAW and Smackdown participating.
During the show, a battle royal was held and featured the first - and possibly last - encounter between Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio.
As both the masked Superstars wrestled in the ring showing off their athletic abilities, the rest of the wrestlers in the ring took a backseat to observe the showdown.
After jumping and flying around the ring for a bit, The Miz decided that he had enough and threw Sin Cara over the top after sneaking up on him from behind. The crowd booed big time and the Miz responded by taking a bow! Classic!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) A medical examiner says something went wrong with professional wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage's heart before he crashed his car and declared the cause of death as heart disease.
The autopsy released Thursday reveals that 58-year-old Randy Poffo, known professionally as Randy Savage, had an enlarged heart with severe blocking of his coronary arteries. With only minor injuries from the crash, the Tampa Bay area medical examiner determined the cause of death to be heart disease.
Authorities say Savage was driving in Pinellas County May 20 when he lost consciousness and crashed into a tree. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Toxicology results showed small traces of alcohol and hydrocodone in Poffo's system, but officials say the amounts wouldn't have factored into the crash.

Your Match of the Night
Tonight's Match is from the first Clash of Champions, March 27th 1988. This is the 6 man tag team match featuring the World Six Man Tag Team Champions, Dusty Rhodes and The Road Warriors vs the Powers of Pain with Ivan Koloff.
You will notice Animal is wearing a "mask" to protect his eye that was actually hurt in a match with the Powers of Pain when the Barbarian dropped all his weight on Animals head. This broke his orbital bone, fractured his skull, broke his cheek bone and his nose. After surgery and time off he came back with the mask and it was the focus of most of his matches for several weeks including this one. He didnt actually have any physical contact until he completely healed and the mask was just a prop for buildup in his matches.

Christopher Daniels. This will be a one-time return for the ring
particularly for this pay-per-view and TNA will resume its wrestling in the
traditional four-sided ring from the following IMPACT Wrestling tapings.

NASH RECENTLY ARRESTED FOR PROTECTING WIFE FROM A DRUNK
- TMZ.COM is reporting that former WWE and WCW champion Kevin Nash was
arrested recently for beating up on a drunk guy after his wife was getting
harassed by the guy who got his ass whooped. TMZ obtained the police report
which stated that Nash and his wife were leaving a restaurant after dinner
and a guy under the influence of alcohol approached his wife. When he was
told to leave, the guy refused and got aggressive, leaving no other option
for Nash to deck him. Police were called in and Nash held the man down until
they showed up but instead cops took the former champ in custody on
suspicion of battery, a charge that was eventually dropped due to lack of
evidence. When TMZ spoke with Nash, he said that if he wanted to sue he'd
have a good case. "I'm a 52-year-old fake fighter. My hands aren't deadly
weapons," he said sarcastically.
JIM ROSS TO UNDERGO SURGERY
- In his always-interesting blog, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross said that he
will be undergoing surgery once again this week to fix an incisional hernia
in his abdomen. "My surgeon is the same one who performed colon surgery, and
no, not the beloved Dr. Heiney, a few years ago on me," joked Ross,
referring to the skit that WWE did years ago on TV about him. "This issue
evolved just over the past 3-4 months and I'm told that getting it repaired
now would be timely and prevent other related health issues going forward."
We wish JR a speedy recovery!
