Today April 28th in 1996:
In Your House VII, "Good Friends, Better Enemies" aired on Pay-per-view from Omaha, Nebraska at the Civic Auditorium. The show would feature the final WWF Pay-per-view appearances of Diesel (Kevin Nash) and Razor Ramon (Scott Hall) before their historic move to WCW.
Here are the results:
- In a match shown on the "Free-For-All" preshow, Marc Mero defeated The 1-2-3 Kid via DQ when Hunter Hearst Helmsley ran in and gave Mero a pedigree.
- Davey Boy Smith &Owen Hart defeated Jake Roberts &Ahmed Johnson when Smith made Roberts submit to a half crab after Jim Cornette hit Roberts in the leg with his tennis racket.
- The Ultimate Warrior defeated Intercontinental Champion Goldust via countout when Goldust refused to return to the ring and face the Warrior.
- Vader defeated Razor Ramon with a sit-down splash as Ramon went for a sunset flip.
- WWF World Tag Team Champions The Bodydonnas defeated The Godwinns.
- WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels defeated Diesel in a no-disqualification match with a superkick. During the match, Diesel pulled the prosthetic leg off of Mad Dog Vachon (who was sitting at ringside) and used it to hit Michaels.

Today in Wrestling History April 27th (Tommy Rich Edition)
1981 - Tommy Rich defeats Harley Race for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in Augusta, Georgia. This ended Race's fifth title reign. Harley would win back the belt four days later.
1987 - Austin Idol defeats Jerry Lawler to win the Southern Heavyweight Title in Memphis, Tennessee in what is arguably one of the most famous matches in Memphis Wrestling history. The match was a steel cage bout, with a cage that covered the floor and ringside area. Austin Idol and manager Paul E. Dangerously had promised to refund the money of every fan in the Mid South Coliseum if Idol lost the match. Lawler, in addition to the Southern Heavyweight Title, also put his hair on the line. The finish saw Tommy Rich (who flew into Memphis from Japan that morning and hid under the ring all day with a six-pack of beer and an air mattress) come up from under the ring after a ref bump and help Idol win the match. Lawler had his hair cut to a crew cut length, while fans were literally grabbing and shaking the cage in anger. This match ended Lawler's 36th Southern Title reign after only a week, and began Idol's 3rd title reign. The Lawler vs. Idol & Rich feud would continue for several months, ending with Lawler & Bill Dundee defeating Idol & Rich in a Scaffold match.
Watch closely in part 5 at the beginning when a fan climbs to the top of the cage and then watch a cop climb up the other side like a it was nothing to chase the fan down.

Match of the Day
Today from Wrestlemania 2 here is the one match that everyone would like to forget, Uncle Elmer vs Adrian Adonis. From a mediocre Wrestlemania 2, the LA portion, this truly stood out as the worst match of the day/night.

Today in Wrestling History
1988 - Sting & Lex Luger, managed by Magnum T.A., win the third, and final, Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup tag team tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina by defeating Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson.
Sting & Luger defeated Ivan Koloff & Dick Murdoch, The Midnight Express, and the Powers Of Pain to reach the finals. Anderson & Blanchard defeated Kendall Windham & Italian Stallion and The Fantastics to reach the finals. The two-day tournament (day one was held in Greenville, South Carolina) was filled with bracketing problems, as there were 22 teams in the tournament, and for some odd reason, the Sheepherders wrestled twice in the second round, defeating Tim Horner & Brad Armstrong, but losing to the Midnight Express. So despite winning (and eliminating Horner & Armstrong) the Sheepherders didn't go to the next round. The tournament, which was started as a multi-promotional event but now was exclusively WCW, would be discarded when Turner Broadcasting purchased the company from the Crocketts

News on Edge
In case you missed the news last night from RAW, Edge announced his retirement from wrestling, live on tv.
At first I didnt buy this, I was waiting for Christian to make his entrance and turn heel to begin a feud or Del Rio to run in and continue the buildup for the title match at the next ppv. Well I was wrong as I read the news today.

EDGE ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT ON RAW
- WWE Superstar and current World Heavyweight champion Edge announced his
retirement yesterday during an emotional interview on the live RAW
broadcast. Edge, real name Adam Copeland, said that both of his arms are
experiencing numbness as a result of a neck injury and an MRI that was held
the day after WrestleMania in Atlanta confirmed the seriousness of the
injury. Edge was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, the narrowing of one or
more areas in the spine which puts pressure on the spinal cord or spinal
nerves at the level of compression according to world renowned Mayo Clinic.
His injury will require surgery and no medical professional will clear Edge
to ever compete in a ring again as there is a risk of paralysis or even
death.
> WORLD TITLE TO BE VACATED ON SMACKDOWN
- The World Heavyweight title will be vacated on Smackdown during tonight's
tapings in Albany, New York, an episode which will air this coming Friday on
SyFy. A video preview on WWE.COM says that Edge must surrender the World
Heavyweight title, completely changing the main event match for the Extreme
Rules pay-per-view. Edge was supposed to wrestle number one contender
Alberto Del Rio at the show, a rematch from WrestleMania, after Del Rio won
a number one contender match against Edge's former tag team partner
Christian last week on Smackdown.
CENA PAYS TRIBUTE TO EDGE AFTER RAW GOES OFF THE AIR
- After RAW went off the air yesterday, Randy Orton and John Cena cleaned
house, with Orton performing the RKO on Riley while John Cena did the
Attitude Adjustment on the WWE champion, The Miz. After celebrating for a
few, John Cena grabbed the mic and addressed Edge, saying he was one of the
guys "who was born to do this." Cena mentioned when Edge defeated him for
the WWE title at the Elimination Chamber and asked the fans to do him one
favor as Edge was pretty broken up when he left the ring. "One time, loud
enough so he can hear you. Give the Rated-R Superstar a proper send off,"
said Cena as Orton sat on the turnbuckle clapping. Cena left the mic in the
middle of the ring as the fans gave another standing ovation. You can see
the video of this at http://w-o.it/hGrDZU
> FRIENDS SAY GOODBYE TO EDGE ON TWITTER

to Edge, who announced his retirement yesterday on Monday Night RAW.

Taz, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Kevin Nash and others all left

opponents. He's also got an incredible MIND for the business. Congrats on an
amazing career," added Chris Jericho. "Have had contact w/Edge & he is
looking 4ward 2what the future holds. It will b great, good things happen 2
good people & he is just that," noted Shawn Michaels, who himself retired
last year. Other in the wrestling business such as Jim Ross, Percy Pringle

Sad state of Scott Hall
from the Online Wrestling Newsletter and my friend Bill
SCOTT HALL SHOWS UP FOR WRESTLING EVENT UNDER THE INFLUENCE
- Former nWo founding member and Intercontinental champion Scott Hall made
headlines again for all the wrong reasons after showing up for Top Rope
Promotions' 30th anniversary show yesterday in Fall River, MA. Hall showed
up under a very heavy influence of either alcohol or drugs and had to be
helped out to the ring by two people. Despite told otherwise, he insisted on
doing his part in the ring. When he was hit by one of the wrestlers inside
the ring, he went down like a ton of bricks and later managed to deliver a
chair shot and a right hand to the face. After the match, which also
featured his friend Justin Credible, Hall was escorted out again by five
people because he couldn't even stand up on his own two feet.

Wrestlemania 27 Thoughts
Well as my friend Chad (an astute observer of wrestling) said "Lower your expectations and you wont be disappointed". Well he again was right and WM 27 wasn't a thrill ride but it wasn't a complete bust with HHH/Undertaker doing their part in a weird match to make it memorable. The addition of The Rock was ok but I dont think the ending was really that great as they left the WWE champion lying in the ring. Now can you imagine Hulk Hogan,HHH, Stone Cold, HBK or UT agreeing to that if they were WWE Champion at Wrestlemania? I dont think so but that shows you how little regard the McMahons have for the title and The Miz. Sadly on Monday night it was all about The Rock and John Cena and setting up really long range plans to meet at Wrestlemania 28 in Miami Florida. Now will Vince have the guts to let it play out or will he get scared and pull the trigger on the match for Summerslam just to get the buy rate up and make some extra cash?
On another note I have high hopes for Sin Cara after seeing him last night on RAW for just a brief run in against Sheamus.and landed a huge top rope jump to start what could be a really good feud (but then again it might last one match on RAW ). Too bad Brian Danielson has been lost in the shuffle and his lack of charisma has put him as the odd man out.

Today in the 21st anniversary of Wrestlemania 6 held in Toronto Ontario Canada.
The main event was the WWF Heavyweight title match with Hulk Hogan defending against the Ultimate Warrior.
this became known as the passing the torch match. When the match ended and UW was the new champion, Hulk Hogan decided to hand the belt to UW himself and go out the sympathetic dethroned champion.
