Great American Bash 1990

Here is the main even of the Bash in 1990, held in Baltimore Md.

The NWA Heavyweight Title match between the World Champion Ric Flair and #1 challenger Sting.
This was a time when the wrestling world was set afire by this feud and every time they faced each other they seem to push each other to a new level as we saw with Flair vs Steamboat the previous year.
The days of everyone paying attention and being excited by the prospect of a World Title change are gone and the great commentary by Jim Ross shows why all wrestlers wanted him to call their title matches.
Ross did a tremendous job of setting this up as a momentous occasion, even if he stretched the truth on the lineage of the NWA World title.   He made you think this was going to be once in a decade occasion.

Match of the Day

Today's match of the day is from Japan and features a ring full of legends that would only be a dream for US fans, King Kong Brody/Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy  vs  Giant Baba/The Funk Brothers.

For todays generation of fans this would be like having a Wrestlemania main event with The Rock/Steve Austin/Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair/The Road Warriors.   Never happen, but at one time in Japan they were able to get all of these true Icons in the ring, from August 30th 1983

Wrestlemania X8

Today in 2002 the WWE held Wrestlemania 18 or X8 at the Skydome in Toronto Ontario Canada.

The main event and the most anticipated match of the night was the match called "ICON vs ICON",  Hulk Hogan vs The Rock.
While the rest of the show was ok at best, this match blew the roof off which was mostly crowd reaction to them and not to the great moves of each man.

Match of the Day

Today's Match is from 1986 and the debut of the WWF's Wrestling Challenge on TV.   The main event of this episode was a tag team match between the WWF Tag Team Champions The British Bulldogs and the Moondogs (Rex and Spot, the blond).    Moondog Rex was the original Smash of Demolition but due to a contract disagreement he left the WWF and was replaced by Barry Darsow (Krusher Kruschev in the NWA).

Today in Wrestling History March 12th

1983 - Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood defeat Sgt. Slaughter & Don Kernodle in a steel cage for the NWA World Tag Team Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Steamboat commented on the match in an interview on PWInsider.com, saying "It's a match that I've always brought up when people bring up the Wrestlemania III match with Randy Savage or the matches with Ric Flair, the series in 1989. There are hundreds of other matches that when you just wrestled in your territory every night, people didn't have the opportunity to see it because there wasn't the television exposure or the Pay-per-view exposure. I've always had that match in my memory banks as one of my greatest matches. It was a match that I had a lot of fun with, from conception to finish, and we probably ran a three month program with Don Kernodle and Sgt. Slaughter. Everything just clicked, and it was a ball of fun."

I have included a second video of the finish since the one I found has a glitch right at the pinfall.
